On Monday afternoon a video of an incident that happened at Spring Valley High School in northeast Richland County, South Carolina began to go viral and now it is receiving national attention. In the recording, a young female student is seen sitting in her chair in a classroom with several other students when an officer grabs her causing the chair to flip over and slamming her to the ground. Once the student is on the ground, the officer can be seen grabbing the student and dragging her for several feet.

According to News19 reports, the student refused to leave the class after a teacher asked her to. An administrator was called to the room, and also asked the student to leave, but she refused again and then the school’s resource officer was called to the room to forcibly removed the student.

“The girl was charged with disturbing schools, and was released to the custody of her parents. Another female student in the class was also charged with disturbing schools,” News19 states.

Sheriff Leon Lott has requested the FBI for South Carolina and the U.S. Justice Department to do an independent investigation of an incident and currently the officer involved in the altercation is no longer at the school.
