Farwest Region of Delta Sigma Theta Takes First Place at 57th National Convention Step Show
The Farwest Region of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. secured first place at the National Step Show held during the organization’s 57th National Convention in Washington, DC this past weekend. The event featured step teams from across the country, with the Farwest Region Step Collective delivering a performance that earned top honors from judges and audience members alike.
Stepping has long been a cultural tradition within Delta Sigma Theta, known for its emphasis on discipline, unity, and expression. The Farwest Region’s performance featured a creative theme titled “Delta AI Bots,” which portrayed members as futuristic, AI-powered bots on a mission to energize a Homecoming tailgate. The routine incorporated sharp choreography, stunts, visual effects, and a cultural highlight, the West Coast line dance “You – Lucy Pearl,” choreographed by Shakeema Prescott of the Cerritos Area Alumnae Chapter.
The Farwest Region Step Collective is a standing regional committee composed of collegiate and alumnae members from multiple chapters across the region. The team emphasizes cross-generational collaboration and creative expression, with a focus on physical and mental wellness.
Jahleeka Morris-Jones, a member of the Inglewood Alumnae Chapter and Coordinator of the Farwest Region Step Collective, stated:
“I want people to know that the Farwest Region is a true force of sisterhood. We showed up, stepped up, and proved exactly what we’re capable of. Stepping on the West Coast is alive, well, and in good hands with the Farwest Region of Delta Sigma Theta.”
Kimberly M. Usher, Regional Director of the Farwest Region, added:
“I am incredibly proud of the energy, creativity, and dedication the Farwest Step Collective brought to the stage. This victory will forever be a highlight of my leadership, as this intergenerational initiative reflects our region’s deep commitment to inclusion as a core principle of the Fabulous Farwest. It is a true testament to what it means to keep the Farwest F.I.R.S.T.”
The 2025 National Step Show took place during a milestone year for the Farwest Region, which is currently celebrating its 100th anniversary. The show was hosted by Sade Ried, Immediate Past National Second Vice President, a Farwest member initiated through the Omicron Chi Chapter who now serves with the San Jose Alumnae Chapter.
The win represents a significant achievement for the Farwest Region as it enters its second century of sisterhood, service, scholarship, and social action.
