Brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. traveled from across the country to Washington, D.C. for Kappas on Capitol Hill, the fraternity’s conference centered on leadership, civic engagement, and education.

Dressed in Kappa blazers and red ties, the men of Kappa Alpha Psi met with lawmakers to advocate for three priorities: passage of the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, an increase in HBCU funding through the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), and the repeal of PLUS loan limits. Brothers also gathered on the East Capitol Steps for a Brotherhood photo alongside the fraternity’s Brother Members of Congress.

At the Howard L. Tutman, Jr. Luncheon, attendees heard from special guest Brother Troy Carter (LA-02) and keynote speaker Brother Hakeem Jeffries, Minority Leader of the U.S. House of Representatives. Both are members of Kappa Alpha Psi.

Western Governors University served as a lead sponsor of this year’s conference.

The 35th Administration of Kappa has put an emphasis on civic participation, and its noticeable,” Britton Smith the National Political Director & Deputy Chief of Staff of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. told Watch The Yard.

Kappa Alpha Psi operates Kappas on Capitol Hill in a nonpartisan, educational capacity, presenting it as an opportunity to learn, engage, and strengthen the fraternity’s commitment to informed citizenship, leadership, and service.
