Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® has chartered a new graduate chapter on the island of New Providence in The Bahamas, bringing 28 sorority members together as charter members of the Alpha Epsilon Theta Omega Chapter.

The chartering took place on Friday, May 29, 2026, during a private, members-only event in the Bahamian capital city on New Providence, followed by a public luncheon attended by family, friends, dignitaries, and sorority members. The new chapter becomes Alpha Kappa Alpha’s fourth in The Bahamas, joining graduate chapters in Nassau and Freeport and an undergraduate chapter in Nassau.

For two years before chartering, the women focused their service across eastern New Providence, working with community partners including the Cleveland Eneas Primary School, the Disaster Risk Management Authority, the Cancer Society of The Bahamas, the Fox Hill Community Centre, and the Geriatric Hospital Comfort Care. Their work included donating an estimated $4,000 worth of groceries for food boxes serving around 200 community members facing food insecurity, distributing 330 Childhood Hunger Initiative Power Packs (AKA CHIPP™) for students, donating books to classroom libraries, and hosting a forum where experts gathered to increase community awareness on human trafficking prevention and child protection. All of the group’s service programs are aligned with the “Soaring to Greater Heights of Service and Sisterhood” program initiatives of Alpha Kappa Alpha President & CEO Danette Anthony Reed.

“I am so proud of the hard work and accomplishments of my sisters in New Providence,” said Carrie J. Clark, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority International Regional Director. “They have done a fantastic job of creating partnerships and offering service initiatives that have had a measurable impact on several New Providence communities.”
