Black Greekdom Mourns the Loss of Kappa Alpha Psi’s Akin Liverpool, Raises Money for His Family

Black Greekdom is mourning the death of Akin “King” Liverpool, a Fall 2023 initiate of the Epsilon Mu Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. at Florida Memorial University. He was 23 years old.
According to NBC6 South Florida, Liverpool’s body was recovered in Biscayne Bay near Brickell on Sunday. His family reported him missing on Friday after he did not return from a ride on a charter boat. The U.S. Coast Guard said it was notified just before midnight Friday of a missing person last seen on the vessel as it traveled south of Brickell Key and Hobie Island Beach Park. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has taken over the investigation.
Those who loved Liverpool remember a young man with a future opening up in front of him. NBC6 reported that he had earned his master’s degree last month and was working toward his doctorate.
Within his family, Liverpool carried weight far beyond his years. As the oldest of five children, he stepped into the role of protector, mentor, and provider. He worked to support his loved ones and was known for showing up for family, friends, and community members whenever he was needed.
In the days since his passing, the Epsilon Mu Chapter has rallied around the Liverpool family. Chapter Polemarch Randy Meran organized a GoFundMe to help cover funeral and memorial expenses and to support Liverpool’s mother and siblings during this time. In the fundraiser, which the chapter shared with Watch The Yard, the family wrote that Akin leaves behind a devoted single mother now facing the heartbreaking reality of laying her son to rest while continuing to care for her family.
Watch The Yard sends its deepest condolences to Akin Liverpool’s family, his friends, and the brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi. We ask that you keep his family, friends and fraternity brothers in your prayers, and those who are able can support the family through the chapter’s GoFundMe.
