Delta Sigma Theta’s National President, Beverly E. Smith, Named 2020 Georgia Outstanding Individual by the Georgia General Assembly

Big news for the women of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.!

On Thursday, the National President and CEO of Delta Sigma Theta, Beverly E. Smith, was named the 2020 Georgia Outstanding Individual by the Georgia General Assembly.

Beverly Evans Smith is the 26th National President of Delta Sigma Theta and was initiated into the sorority through the Epsilon Omicron Chapter at Bowling Green State University in October 1967.

With a strong history of doing great work in Georgia, she recently retired as the Assistant Commissioner and Georgia State Director for Adult Education and GED Testing through the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG). “The Office of Adult Education administers federal state-wide Adult education grants, provides adult education training programs for over 69,000 Georgia and supports local literacy action programs throughout the state,” her bio states.

An active community member, Smith has served on multiple community Boards and Commissions, including the Boy Scouts of America Atlanta Area Council, County United Way, Girls Incorporated, and as the Cobb County Commission’s appointee and Chair of the Cobb County Board of Elections & Registration for eight years (2005-2013).”

Along with this, Smith is also the Senior Vice-President of The HR Group, Inc., a management consulting firm. She spent eighteen years in leadership positions with AT&T (Southern Bell) and also worked as a college administrator and teacher at Kent State University (Ohio), and Georgia State University.
