Groove Phi Groove and Swing Phi Swing Are Bringing Clean Water to Thousands of Ghanaians Through Their GOOD Water Project

The Men of Groove Phi Groove Social Fellowship, Incorporated and the Women of Swing Phi Swing Social Fellowship, Incorporated have just completed their second water borehole in Kumasi, Ghana, bringing clean and reliable water access to a combined total of approximately 10,000 people per year.
According to a press release from the organizations, the newly constructed borehole will serve a village of over 5,000 residents, providing clean water for drinking, cooking, and daily hygiene. It will also function as a bathing station for children at a local orphanage that Groove Phi Groove and Swing Phi Swing have maintained a longstanding partnership with, directly improving the health and daily lives of some of Ghana’s most vulnerable young people.
The initiative behind this milestone is called the GOOD Water Project, a signature program jointly run by the two fellowships in direct response to one of West Africa’s most persistent public health challenges. According to UNICEF and the World Health Organization, as of 2022, nearly 6 million people in Ghana lack access to safe drinking water, and waterborne diseases remain a leading cause of illness and death, particularly among children.

The impact of this work extends well beyond water access alone. Research cited by the World Health Organization shows that every $1 invested in water and sanitation yields an average return of $4 in increased productivity and reduced healthcare costs. Reliable water access also has a measurable effect on educational outcomes, particularly for girls, who in many rural communities spend hours each day walking long distances to collect water instead of attending school.
The second borehole marks a significant step toward the GOOD Water Project’s long-term goal of constructing 10 boreholes across 10 years, ultimately serving 100,000 Ghanaians per year on an ongoing basis. The press release notes that both organizations emphasize sustainability and community involvement in their approach, working directly with local leaders and partner organizations to ensure each borehole is properly maintained and that communities have the tools and knowledge to manage their water supply over time.
