Alpha Phi Alpha Chapter Donates Over 100 Laptops to Underserved Communities in Guyana

In a powerful display of international service and solidarity, the Brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Mu Xi Lambda Chapter traveled to Georgetown, Guyana in February to deliver more than 100 laptops—valued at over $14,000—to underserved communities across the region.

Led by the chapter’s President, Vice President, and Immediate Past Chapter President, the Alpha men distributed laptops to four community organizations: COLAACO/ACDA, Mocha Arcadia Village, Parbamel Community Centre, and Victoria Community Centre. The devices are being used to launch computer labs, support entrepreneurship training, and expand youth development initiatives throughout the country.

The Mu Xi Lambda Chapter encompasses both Riverside and San Bernardino County in California, making it the largest area serviced by any Alpha Phi Alpha chapter in the continental United States. The project reflects the fraternity’s mission to develop leaders, promote brotherhood and academic excellence, and provide service and advocacy for communities.

To source the laptops, the chapter partnered with a local community college district, securing surplus equipment and repurposing it for global impact. While in Guyana, the brothers engaged with local leaders, youth, and educators, reinforcing a shared commitment to resource-sharing, education, and Black diaspora connection.

“This was about more than technology—it was about keeping our promises and creating lasting bridges between Black communities globally,” said Bro. Dr. Jamal J. Myrick.

Chapter President Bro. Dewayne Cezere added that the work represents Alpha Phi Alpha’s calling to be “servants of all,” and a continuation of the fraternity’s long-standing commitment to transforming lives through education, advocacy, and collective uplift.

Through this project, Mu Xi Lambda reminded the world that service has no borders—and neither does brotherhood.
