The 958th House of Alpha Phi Alpha Was Just Chartered in Southeastern Pennsylvania
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. recently chartered its first alumni chapter in suburban Philadelphia, PA.
Sigma Mu Lambda Chapter was chartered on May 19, 2019 and is the 958th House of Alpha.
The official chartering ceremony was held October 20, 2019 at the Canopy Garden at the Norristown, PA Zoological Park. Sigma Mu Lambda (SML) represents the first time a chapter has been chartered in Southeastern Pennsylvania since 1985.
SML along with the other Philadelphia alumni chapters, Rho, Zeta Omicron Lambda, and Omicron Delta Lambda will continue the work of Alpha in Southeastern Pennsylvania. SML will serve Montgomery and Chester Counties.
The event was sold out and attended by state, county, and local elected officials as well as representatives from local Divine 9 organizations.
Regional and district representatives of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. were also in attendance. Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., Eastern Region Vice President, Lucien Metellus presented the charter to chapter President Gerald Baron as well as charter members Richard Austin, Derek Bell, Kewin Gales, James Hamilton Jr, Tyrone LaCato, Darone Littleton, and Claude Mickle.
