Joe Biden Selects Alpha Kappa Alpha Soror and Howard Grad Kamala Harris as His Running Mate
Joe Biden announced Tuesday that he has chosen California senator Kamala Harris as his running mate.
“You make a lot of important decisions as president. But the first one is who you select to be your Vice President. I’ve decided that Kamala Harris is the best person to help me take this fight to Donald Trump and Mike Pence and then to lead this nation starting in January 2021,” Biden wrote in an email from his campaign to supporters.
Harris, who is 55, is a graduate of Howard University and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

She attended Howard University where she became a member of the Alpha Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha and was very active in campus politics. She was a political science/economics major and a member of the debate team, campaigning for the first time as an undergrad.
“My first run for office was at Howard University, where I was elected freshman class representative of the liberal arts student council. Running a campaign at Howard was tough! I remember walking up to strangers,” she recalled “asking them to vote for me.”
“She’s been a fighter and a principled leader and I know because I’ve seen her up close and I’ve seen her in the trenches,” Biden said of Harris at a virtual fundraiser in June.
