NASA Astronaut Victor Glover Jr. Named Honorary Chair of Phi Beta Sigma’s Conclave In Houston

Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. has appointed NASA astronaut Victor Glover Jr. as the Honorary Chair for its 2023 Conclave in Houston.

Currently Victor Glover is preparing to make history as the first Black man to be sent to the Moon by NASA. Glover will take part in NASA’s Artemis II mission which will be the first time that humans have left low-Earth orbit since December 1972, at the conclusion of the Apollo 17 mission.

Based in Houston, Texas, Mr. Glover has actively participated in the Conclave Planning Team, International Headquarters, and Local Host Chapters, contributing to the development of a significant conference experience.

“Every day, I try to live out the words of our motto, ‘culture for service and service for humanity,’ and the NASA mission, ‘NASA explores the unknown in air and space, innovates for the benefit of humanity, and inspires the world through discovery,'” Glover stated. “So it is really special to serve in this unique position when our conclave is in Houston – Space City. I look forward to welcoming brothers from all over the world as we get together and get to work. Our cause speeds on its way.”

“Having Brother Glover as our Honorary Conclave Chair truly is our honor. Brother Glover’s dedication to Brotherhood, Scholarship, and Service is exemplified by his lifelong commitment to Phi Beta Sigma. His presence brings an incredible level of prestige and knowledge to Conclave Houston,” the fraternity’s International President, Chris V. Rey, J.D. stated.

Previously, Glover served as the pilot on the Crew-1 SpaceX Crew Dragon, named “Resilience,” which successfully launched on November 15, 2020. During Expedition 64, he served as a Flight Engineer on the International Space Station and delivered a memorable address to the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity during their 107th Global Founders’ Day Celebration.

Before joining NASA, Mr. Glover had a background as a Naval Aviator and worked as a test pilot on various aircraft, including the F/A-18 Hornet, Super Hornet, and EA-18G Growler. He holds multiple master’s degrees in Flight Test Engineering, Systems Engineering, and Military Operational Art and Science from respected institutions, in addition to a Bachelor of Science in General Engineering from California Polytechnic State University.

With Victor Glover Jr. leading the way, the 2023 Phi Beta Sigma Conclave in Houston is poised to be an informative and engaging event, uniting fraternity members around their shared objectives.
