The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced Monday its latest class of inductees, with MC Lyte among those set to be honored.

Lyte, born Lana Moorer, will receive the Early Influence Award, recognizing artists whose work has had a lasting impact on music and culture. She joins a class that includes Queen Latifah, Celia Cruz, Fela Kuti, and Gram Parsons in the category.

A pioneering figure in hip-hop, MC Lyte is also an honorary member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., having been inducted into the organization in 2004.

“Induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is music’s highest honor. We look forward to celebrating these remarkable artists at this year’s ceremony,” said John Sykes, Chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

To be eligible for induction, artists must have released their first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to nomination.
