Divine Nine Orgs Team Up To Raise Almost $100,000 To Support The Creation Of A Camp For At-Risk Boys

Members of the Divine 9 have teamed up and raised nearly $100,000 for Camp New Joy, a camp targeted a at-risk young men and boys.
The camp is the brainchild of Phi Beta Sigma’s International President Jonathan Mason as a response to the continuous violence perpitrated towards young black men by society. When speaking about it President Mason told the Charleston Chronicle, “This Camp will be a teaching and nurturing environment to help our young Black men better navigate the challenges they are faced with each and every day in our society. While many occurrences can easily land them in jail or even worse, Camp New Joy provides them with an environment that helps them focus on becoming better men, ultimately understanding the greater results they can get in life.”
During the Phi Beta Sigma 2015 Conclave in Little Rock Arkansas last month, members of Phi Beta Sigma, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sigma Gamma Rho, Zeta Phi Beta, Omega Psi Phi, Delta Sigma Theta and Iota Phi Theta came together to raise money for the camp. According the the Charleston Chronicle, “Their combined efforts netted nearly $100,000, getting the group closer to its $300,000 goal and the completion of the Camp’s first house. Since, October 2013, $500,000 has been raised for Camp New Joy.”
We at WatchTheYard would love to applaud everyone who took part in this initiative. This is what our organizations are all about!
