Black Greekdom Mourns the Death of Iota Phi Theta’s Kirk Pressley
Black Greekdom is mourning the loss of Kirk Pressley, an initiate of the Mu Chapter of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. at Bowie State University, who made a lasting impact across Black Greek life, higher education, and the global ballroom community.
Pressley, a Bowie State University alumnus and former two-term Student Government Association president, became widely known in recent years for his work as a ballroom commentator. His voice, presence, and cultural influence reached national audiences after going viral on social media and appearing in a Super Bowl commercial alongside Rihanna. Beyond the spotlight, Pressley was a producer, performer, and advocate for the ballroom community, using his platform to uplift marginalized people, particularly within the LGBTQ community.
A member of the House of Balenciaga, Pressley’s passing was announced Wednesday by Overall Founding Father Harold Balenciaga.
“It is with great sadness, shock and disbelief that I share with the many communities he brought love, life and energy to that our beloved Kirk Pressley aka Boom Balenciaga @goforkirk has passed,” Harold Balenciaga said. “Please keep his family, the many organizations, friends and all those who loved him in your prayers. We will all miss the light spirit and good vibes he would bring to any room. We love you Kirk, rest in peace king.”
Bowie State University’s Student Government Association also released a statement honoring Pressley’s legacy on campus.
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our very own, Kirk Pressley, aka MC Boom Boom, aka Mr. 2Term,” the statement read. “Kirk Pressley graduated from Bowie State University in 2011, after serving two terms as SGA President and making a great impact on his campus and peers daily.”
Following graduation, Pressley continued serving the Bowie State community as Program Coordinator for the university’s ATOD Prevention Center. The SGA emphasized his lasting influence, stating, “This campus will forever appreciate and honor your light and legacy. We thank you for being you.”
The university encouraged students, faculty, and staff to support one another during this time, noting that counseling services are available to those in need.

From the yard to the ballroom, Kirk Pressley lived at the intersection of leadership, culture, and advocacy. His impact spanned organizations, campuses, creative spaces, and communities that rarely intersect publicly but were united through his presence. As tributes continue to pour in, Watch The Yard remembers a brother whose life reflected service, authenticity, and love.
May his memory be a blessing.
