It was recently announced that Delta Sigma Theta member Vedet Coleman-Robinson has been named the new Executive Director of the Association of African American Museums.
“Located in Washington, D.C., AAAM is a non-profit member organization established to support African and African American focused museums nationally and internationally, as well as the professionals who protect, preserve and interpret African and African American art, history, and culture,” its website states.
An HBCU grad, Mrs. Coleman-Robinson received her B.A. in U.S. History from Virginia State University where she was initiated into Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.’s Alpha Eta Chapter in the spring of 2002.
She earned her M.A. from Howard University in U.S. History with a concentration in Public History and is currently a Ph.D. student at Howard University pursuing her degree in U.S. History.
Before pursuing her Ph.D., Coleman-Robinson worked for the National Park Service (NPS) where she served for eleven years as a Grants Management Specialist within the State, Tribal, Local, Plans & Grants Division (STLPG). There she was the Program Lead for the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Grant (HBCU) and the underrepresented Community Grant programs for STLPG.
“Vedet has the professional experience, intelligence, and visionary leadership AAAM needs to take its next evolutionary step forward,“ said Brian J. Carter, Board President and Chair of the Hiring Committee. “AAAM recently completed a National Needs Assessment, created a four-year strategic plan responding to the Assessment, and we are now poised to support Vedet as she expands programming and services that will address those needs expressed by the field.”
We at Watch The Yard would like to congratulate Vedet Coleman-Robinson on her new position and hope to create ways that Watch The Yard can work to promote and collaborate with the Association of African American Museums in the future.
