Is hazing more prevalent at HBCUs?
Watch this debate that was done on CNN back in 2011 between Roland Martin and Prof. Ricky Jones the author of Black Haze: Violence, Sacrifice, and Manhood in Black Greek-Letter Fraternities on Anderson Cooper’s AC360 about the perceived culture of hazing in marching bands and black fraternities and sororities at historically Black colleges and universities.
In the segment, Prof. Ricky Jones argues that a specific type of dangerous hazing is found among black organizations and is embedded into the very fiber of HBCUs. He argues that the solution is to have the colleges and universities disband these organizations. The debate gets pretty intense but some very interesting points are made on both sides of the argument.
