Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, delivered the commencement speech at Bethune-Cookman University on Wednesday and received an extremely cold welcome from the graduating HBCU students who made national news by booing and turning their backs to her during her speech.

DeVos has not been on the good side of HBCU students across the nation because of her position in the Trump administration, policy, and a statement she made saying that HBCUs were created because of choice and students seeking better options, ignoring the fact that many of them were created because Black students could not attend white segregated schools for decades.

At one point during the speech, the booing was so loud that the University’s President told the students if they kept booing they would have to receive their degrees in the mail.
