Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® has expanded its global footprint with the chartering of its first chapter in Ghana, marking a historic milestone for the organization and its International Region. The chapter was officially chartered on Friday, January 16, 2026, during a private, members-only chartering ceremony and a public luncheon held in Accra, attended by family, friends, and sorority members.

The Alpha Delta Psi Omega Chapter becomes Alpha Kappa Alpha’s fourth graduate chapter on the African continent, joining sister chapters in Liberia, South Africa, and Nigeria. More than two dozen women worked for two years to bring the chapter to fruition, representing a wide range of professional backgrounds including medicine, law, business, education, fashion, and other fields. Their collective work has already established a strong Alpha Kappa Alpha presence across several Ghanaian cities, including Accra, Kumasi, Aburi, and Koforidua.

International Regional Director Carrie J. Clark spoke to the impact she witnessed firsthand, saying, “The work I have witnessed my sisters accomplish in Ghana is awe-inspiring. I visited with them a year ago and watched their interactions with community members and children. The care and love that they display are undeniable.” Clark later added, “These ladies have done a wonderful job of creating Alpha Kappa Alpha’s presence in Ghana through service that is thoughtful and meaningful.”

Among the service initiatives already implemented by the Ghanaian sorority members is the donation of more than 800 children’s books and school supplies, the mentoring of 30 young students through the sorority’s Youth Leadership Initiative (YLI), and the planting of 108 coconut seedlings alongside children at the Aburi Botanical Garden. The chapter has also mentored eight local business owners through the “Pull Up and Pitch” experience and competition, encouraged physical and mental dexterity activities with aging community members, and carried out additional community-focused programs.

The Ghana chapter has partnered with several organizations to support its service efforts, including Bridge-To-Africa Connection, Inc., BASICS International, Planet Waves, Daughters of the Middle Passage, Golden Chapter Foundation, and Kaya Childcare Center. All service activities were developed in coordination with Soaring to Greater Heights of Service and Sisterhood, the current international program led by International President and CEO Danette Anthony Reed.
