WARNING: You don’t want none with the Deltas from Southern University when it comes to yard shows!

Watch as the Alpha Tau chapter of Delta Sigma Theta in Baton Rouge, Louisiana lets the campus know who runs things on their yard.

The video was shot during their spring 2015 Delta Week and not only includes some INTENSE chants, but some great performing.

This video includes some epic Delta chants including the following targeted at the AKAs:

“In 1908, YOU thought YOU were the best/

But MY 22 founders wouldn’t settle for less/

So in 1913, they envisioned something greater/

YOUR president walked out and founded DELTA SIGMA THETA!”

Check out the video that was shot by Marvin Price below.

We know our history, which is what was said in the chant. There were no other black sororities at the time, so yes, all our Founders were originally AKAs, but they wanted something different, so they left. It’s just a chant. It’s not that serious to be calling these young ladies dumb hos. It doesn’t make them look dumb at all.

So glad you used your name. AKA has a no hazing policy to include derogatory name calling. I’ve Submitted Your Post Since YOU think it is ok to call young women hos. What you said is no reflection of a real AKA! In fact it is just disrespectful to all the Divine Nine stand for.

Really how disrespectful. I’m friends with a quote a few AKAs you shame them. There is enough hatred among black women. Instead of showing the class most of your Sorors exhibit you represent the very bottom. Now who’s the real dumbo?

Dears, I have no reasoning for the title. Someone wanted to stir the pot. You’re right and hopefully everyone finds what works for them.

The show was what it was meant to be, a show. This is one of many Greek diss chants among our organizations. It is not meant for everyone (GDIs) to understand. And you may not. It doesn’t have to be defended nor explained.

Hazing and abuse are just that. They exsist in many types of relationships. Many times people have resorted to hazing to join various organizations. And for NPHC organizations it is absolutely not condoned or tolerated. But just like you break rules, others may. It does not mean that this is part of the whole. *sigh* If it’s not for you, you are not being asked to paparticipate, you may be dismissed.

This is so hood and dumb!!! If you’re really about sisterhood, whatever sorority you are affiliated with shouldn’t matter…paying all that money to buy friendship and feel ” a part” of something is DUMB!!! Half of you Greek people aren’t even active after you graduate (if you even do). Focus your attention on being more loving and not “competing” all the time and wanting to be seen. Please take the silly barbaric mess down.

Are you even Greek? i’m thinking not because of your aforementioned statement “half of YOU Greek people” yadda yadda yadda…and like the poster said…its all in fun and healthy competition, nothing wrong with that because , trust when its time for “us Greeks’ to stick together…we are a force to be reckoned with…so if you have a problem with how we relate stop coming to this site…I mean it caters to “us Greeks’ and folks who are interested in what we do…peace.

You’re exactly right, I’M NOT!!!…and would NEVER want to be. I’m an African American who’s smart enough to know that all this “Greek” stuff is stolen philosophy from the Egyptians and a way for people who feel the need to belong to become a part of an organization. It’s NOT fun and a “healthy” competition when people are murdered and brutally beaten behind this MESS!!! It also makes the black race look very ignorant with all this “competing.” However, I do understand, some minds are just to parochial to see the big picture. Peace, Love AND Happiness to you too!!! If I may add, start reading and doing research before you affiliate yourself with such societies.

          • AnyaDiggsWYRT

            July 25, 2015 at 9:25 am

I would suggest that YOU read and do research. If it wasn’t for BGLOs, you wouldn’t have the likes of Dr. Martin Luther King and his wife, Coretta Scott King, Rosa Parks and Maya Angelou. You don’t have to be Greek but at least respect those that paved the way for you.

          • Tonya Williamson

            July 26, 2015 at 9:56 am

Hi Anya, I DO respect my forefathers..tremendously. However, at the same time i also realize they are human and not God. So just because they were affiliated with fraternities and sororities it’s ok? I’m sorry, but I’ve never been one to jump on the bandwagon…I’ve always been an individual. I’m sure the individuals you mentioned are turning over in their graves at the conduct exemplified in this video..by no means is this demonstrating unity amongst our already divided race. I don’t find anything worth dropping over at least $1000 dollars on just to say you’re a part of it..enduring a lot of butt whippings and stress. There were countless times my friends came to class with red eyes, looking all stressed out, grades failing and having to cheat to stay pass while on line. Many dropped out of college once they pledged. People don’t have to endure that chaos with their blood family so how in the world does that make sense with friends/strangers? I wish i could untag myself from this website because I’m tired of getting these same ole ad nauseam replies..if you pledged Awesome..if not Awesome!!! Continue to do what you feel is cool and right and I’ll do the same..at the end of the day they’re all opinions…i don’t know for sure and you don’t know for sure what the truth is…we can only formulate our beliefs on our experiences, common sense, and what we read…I DO know for sure that one day I will expire so I just try to live my life as righteous as possible. I apologize if I have offended anyone..it was not my intention…I only wanted to point out that the behavior exemplied is petty and uncalled for. I really think people, especially blacks, should focus more on unity being we experience so much injustice as a race already. Let’s focus more on building each other up, not breaking each other down.

May I ask, jealous of WHAT?!?!?!?!?…i mean really!!!..It is unfortunate that black people always come to the conclusion that someone is “jealous” or a “hater” because they are not in agreement or critical of something that someone else likes…don’t be THAT petty. How it appears to me is that you all are jealous and competitive towards each other…if not, this “hood” video would not have been made. Just except the fact I just did not like the video and it was MY right to state how I felt. Don’t be so sensitive!!!!!!!…Now, the person who is exempted from paying taxes and never have to worry about becoming ill or loved ones becoming ill…that’s the person that i may be a little jealous of…trust and believe…NOT this!!! Ms. Williamson as a proud member of the aforementioned “Greek people” I can assure you yard shows aren’t even a small portion of the totality of ours or any of our fellow Greek brothers and sisters. You’re are missing the mountain while gawking over the molehill. I suggest you do more research on what any of the Divine 9 organizations do for the various communities they work in and with before you comment. Getting together to “battle” through coordinated routines is the banter of camaraderie we share with other Greek organizations. As we do take it to be a fun yet serious matter it pales in comparison to the good work we do daily by creating content to engage the communities we live in by promoting education in various areas of one’s life. Content that encourages literacy in health & wellness, finances, education, political awareness and the like. We don’t just step but when we do we do enjoy it. As we are a passionate bunch a few of my sorors have chosen respond to your statement in defense of our beloved sorority. My reaction is one in effort to educate you on the merits of joining a group of like minded women to accomplish a shared goal.

They look and act like a team of Junior high school girls who just bought those hideous outfits with money they raised from selling cheap candy. That aside, they should have spent more time perfecting their performance and less time trying to read. They all seemed pressed about other orgs. Too much too soon especially if they are neos. June 18, 2015 at 12:41 pm

This is correct. This is a part of Alpha Kappa Alpha’s history; this information is not knew. AKA’s and Delta’s need to stop this nonsense of whatever beef we have. At the end of the day, we are all African American women that need to focus on bigger and better things. This is really not that important, the real importance is focusing on the black community and making sure we set examples for our young African American females. If you really look at it, there is no surprise we have different organizations. We should because we have different personalities and goals that are neither wrong or right. What will it look like if everyone was driving the same car, same color make and model? This would not work because everyone have different taste and style and you pretty much pick the car that is right for you. So stop the buffoonery and embrace the sorority you are a part of and let’s practice unity instead of hate!

Ive seen akas diss the delta’s all the time. It all depends on how u look at it. Some take it serious and some ppl think its funny when they diss each other. Tonya, been a member of Phi Beta Sigma for 34 years, and a Freemason for 30, I want to say You are entitled to your opinion, as that is what it is, an opinion. I know what D9 organizations have done in the past 109 years, and they have been in the forefront of seeing justice and equality. You are not REQUIRED to appreciate or even understand that. Some of what you have said is true. Pledging, which ended several years ago and is outlawed by all our organizations, has hurt and even killed people. Today there are a few renegades who continue this activity. It is also true that some in our organizations have also been ultra exclusionary. My own organization was founded based on inclusion rather than exclusion. I will not elaborate further as I am not trying to change your mind. I am simply here to say I support your right to disagree.

Thought about going Greek. But by the time they had a line I was a senior and decided it would be a distraction and graduating was more important although I did attend the interest meeting. good credential, 3.8 gpa, I still have the original application packet matter of fact. This was about 2 years ago. Nonetheless, While in college I joined Order of the Eastern Star my Sophomore year, and began my own successful incorporated service organization on campus also. So my service to the community was never stopped which is what was most important to me than anything and should be for everyone.
I will say I attended grad school for a semester after the new line crossed and found many of the neos of the line I was going to pledge to have deplorable despicable decorum and rude, condescending attitudes. which made me kinda happy I didnt join. I said to myself “they wont last long”… 7 months later they got put on “cease and desist”. Before then, I remember wearing my Eastern Star shirt for class because it was OUR founders day and one of them passing by me saying ‘she just want some shine cuz she aint make it”. and them moving girls purses from seats they were sitting and taking the table. Profane, loud, coming into others events. pushing people out the way. Strolling at inappropriate times. They actually gave themselves a bad rep.
It was only a matter of time before they Got kicked off for fighting and rioting at a collegiate event.
Had 3 of them hate me just because I was OES and ask me did i think it was “better”.
My point is organizations purpose is service, greek or not. Lets remember that. Just because someone isnt greek doesnt mean they arent worthy or when they give you critisism it doesnt necessary mean they wanna be you. I think Greek organizations are great. But if we greeks and nongreeks could come together as a community to make change think about the greater power and beauty in that. Im not interested to Masonic and Eastern Stars history as it pertains to Black Greeks existing. There is no comparison or need to spit our historical relevance to anyone. We just want to see the community win. Humility and love is always key no mattter who they are. A person that wasnt hazed on line might have been hazed in the struggle of life. Find the common denominator.
Yet if OES did spit its relevance to BGLO existance, wonder what that would be like…

Nicely put Ms. La Girl…..I appreciate fact you kept it very professional and attempted to educate me. You are a great role model of how other women in these organizations should conduct themselves. May you continue to remain positive and do good deeds for the community. You have my respect. Wishing you nothing but greatness !!! Take care!!!

Former Ntl. President of Delta Sigma Theta, Congresswoman Fudge, Introduces Bill to Track Hazing on a National Level

Credit: Cleveland.com

Former Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. National President and current U.S. Representative for Ohio’s 11th congressional district, Marcia Fudge has introduced a bill that would require universities by federal law to include the hazing incidents in their yearly crime reports.

Fudge and her co-sponsor, Pennsylvania Republican Patrick Meehan, believe that tracking college hazing will allow authorities grasp the practice’s prevalence and figure out how to reduce it on a national level.

“The bill would require schools that participate in federal financial aid programs to disclose hazing incidents, arrests and disciplinary referrals in their yearly security reports and to implement a hazing education program for students,” Cleveland.com states.

“We cannot act only after an unfortunate incident occurs,” Fudge said in a statement. “We need a strategy that will address hazing at its core. Accurate college reporting will provide the data we need to develop legislative solutions for administrators and faculty and protect our nation’s college students.”

Fudge is a Past National President of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., where she served from 1996 to 2000 and is a member of the Greater Cleveland Alumnae Chapter. She has also served as the co-chair of the sorority’s National Social Action Commission. Last year, after the leak of internal documents from the Democratic Party that forced Debbie Wasserman Schultz to step down, Rep. Fudge served as the chair of the 2016 Democratic National Convention.

Rep. Fudge’s hazing bill has been endorsed by Pennsylvania State University, where Timothy Piazza, an engineering student, died earlier this year from of injuries sustained while pledging Beta Theta Pi fraternity.

The bill is currently being endorsed by organizations including the National Panhellenic Conference and the North-American Interfraternity Conference.

“The likelihood is very good that we are going to get it passed. It is a bipartisan bill and I think we are going to be great. I think they are going to pass it because everybody knows it is a problem.” Marcia said when asked if she thought the bill was going to pass by Cleveland.com reporters.

Marcia Louise Fudge has served as the U.S. Representative for Ohio’s 11th congressional district since 2008, a district that includes most of the black-majority areas between Cleveland and Akron. Fudge was initially elected to Congress in November 2008. She was the first African American and the first female mayor of Warrensville Heights, Ohio, past Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, and an original co-chair of the Democrats for Public Education. She is active in the Congressional Black Caucus, Congressional Progressive Caucus, Congressional Caucus for Women’s Issues, Congressional Military Family Caucus, STEM Education Caucus, Children’s Caucus (Founder and Co-Chair of the Congressional Taskforce on Childhood Obesity).

To celebrate the 30th birthday of one of their sorors, alumnae of Lincoln University, PA who were initiated through the Zeta Omega Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta went to the Bahamas for a sisterhood trip.

While on the trip, the ladies hit the beach on Rose Island for a photo shoot that will make you want to buy a ticket to the Bahamas ASAP. We reached out to the women in the photos and they told us that this was more than just a group vacation.

“This was more than just a girls trip, it was a celebration of life, education, reaching career goals and love. We believe that a sister holds you up and never lets you down.”

“We are educators, counselors, attorneys, registered nurse, directors, managers, and entrepreneurs,” @bpain1, one of the ladies in the photos told Watch The Yard.

Currently, we have been seeing a rise in Black sorority sisterhood trips and we love it. There is nothing like relaxing and enjoying the special bond that is sisterhood in the sun next to crystal clear water!
