Phi Beta Sigma Condemns Assault on Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost
Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated has issued a public statement condemning a recent act of violence against their fraternity brother U.S. Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost, reaffirming its opposition to political violence in all forms.
According to the fraternity’s statement, the incident occurred during a private event at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. The organization described the act as violence, intimidation, and threats directed at an individual engaged in public service, noting that such actions represent a serious threat to democratic participation and the rule of law.
“Acts of political violence are designed to silence voices, discourage civic engagement, and instill fear within communities,” the statement read. “Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated rejects these tactics in all forms and stands in solidarity with those who serve their communities.”
Congressman Frost addressed the incident publicly, stating that he was assaulted by a man who made racist remarks before punching him in the face. Frost noted that the individual fled the scene but was later arrested, and he confirmed that he is okay. He also thanked venue security and the Park City Police Department for their response.

In response to the incident, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated reaffirmed its long-standing commitment to peaceful, nonpartisan civic engagement. The organization announced a renewed focus on Get-Out-The-Vote (GOTV) and voter education initiatives as part of its International Social Action agenda. Planned efforts include mobilizing chapters nationwide for voter education and turnout initiatives, hosting information sessions on elections and voting procedures, promoting early and absentee voting, and engaging first-time and infrequent voters through education and outreach.
“Voting remains one of the most powerful, lawful, and effective tools for creating change,” the statement continued, emphasizing that violence intended to intimidate or discourage participation must be met with increased education, stronger organization, and greater voter engagement.
Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated also called on its chapters, members, and partners to lead by example by encouraging civic participation, expanding voter education, and empowering communities to make their voices heard at the ballot box.
