Actor and Singer Leon Robinson Inducted as Honorary Member of Phi Beta Sigma
Today, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. welcomed acclaimed actor and singer Leon Robinson into its Brotherhood as an Honorary Member during the 2025 International Conclave in Tampa, Florida. His induction celebrates a dynamic career that spans film, television, music, and arts education.
Best known simply as “Leon,” Robinson has portrayed some of the most memorable roles in Black cinema, from David Ruffin in The Temptations, to Derice Bannock in Cool Runnings, and J.T. Matthews in The Five Heartbeats. His ability to bring depth and dignity to these characters has made him a cultural fixture and fan favorite across generations.

In addition to acting, Leon is an accomplished singer and frontman of the band Leon & The Peoples, known for their fusion of reggae, soul, and pop. Beyond the spotlight, he has committed himself to supporting arts education programs that expose young people to the transformative power of performance and creativity.
“We’re excited to welcome this class of honorary members to the Phi Beta Sigma Brotherhood,” said Chris V. Rey, J.D., International President of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. “Their professional achievements and community service engagement make them perfect candidates for Honorary Membership.”
Leon’s induction aligns with the fraternity’s dedication to cultural excellence, community impact, and creative expression. He joins a distinguished 2025 honorary line that includes civil rights leader Dr. Howard Fuller; hip-hop icon Edward “Special Ed” Archer; gospel legend Fred Hammond; former NFL player and academic Dr. George Koonce; Southern University Chancellor Dr. John K. Pierre; fashion entrepreneur Dave “UNK” Huie; and financial freedom advocate Dr. DeForest B. Soaries, Jr.
Together, they represent a cross-section of Black excellence—bridging entertainment, education, faith, and service under the banner of Brotherhood, Scholarship, and Service.
