Streetwear Pioneer Dave “UNK” Huie Inducted as Honorary Member of Phi Beta Sigma
Today, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. inducted fashion entrepreneur and cultural marketing visionary Dave “UNK” Huie as an Honorary Member during its 2025 International Conclave in Tampa, Florida. Known for bridging the worlds of streetwear, sports, and mentorship, Huie’s influence runs deep through urban fashion and culture.
Huie is best known as the founder of UNK NBA Sportswear, a brand that helped redefine how basketball and hip-hop aesthetics came together in the fashion world. Long before official league collaborations were common, UNK was already dressing fans and celebrities in gear that reflected both team loyalty and cultural style.

With a career that spans creative direction, licensing, and community engagement, Huie has become a respected figure in the business of branding Black culture. His designs have been worn by athletes, artists, and everyday fans alike, always grounded in authenticity and connection.
Outside of fashion, Huie has poured energy into mentorship and youth empowerment, helping young creatives navigate entrepreneurship and identity in an industry often inaccessible to them. His work exemplifies the fusion of commerce and community impact.
“We’re excited to welcome this class of honorary members to the Phi Beta Sigma Brotherhood,” said Chris V. Rey, J.D., International President of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. “Their professional achievements and community service engagement make them perfect candidates for Honorary Membership.”
Huie joins a distinguished 2025 honorary line that includes civil rights activist Dr. Howard Fuller; hip-hop icon Edward “Special Ed” Archer; actor and singer Leon Robinson; gospel legend Fred Hammond; former NFL player and academic Dr. George Koonce; Southern University Chancellor Dr. John K. Pierre; and financial freedom advocate Dr. DeForest B. Soaries, Jr.
Together, they represent the best of Black brilliance across industries, celebrating culture, building legacy, and upholding the values of Brotherhood, Scholarship, and Service.
