Stomp Wars Celebrates 20 Years of Empowering Youth Through the Art of Stepping
The Stomp Wars National Step Championships is celebrating its 20th anniversary this spring, bringing the energy of stepping, the power of culture, and the impact of youth leadership to the national stage—with Watch The Yard proudly serving as a media sponsor for this year’s historic event.
Stomp Wars Global has officially announced the milestone event will take place on April 11, 2026, at College Park Center in Arlington, Texas.
Founded by Dr. Rocky “ROCK-T” Turner, a nationally recognized media personality from The Rickey Smiley Morning Show, Stomp Wars has grown into the largest youth step ecosystem in the country. Over the past two decades, the organization has reached more than 1.1 million youth and families, creating a national platform that celebrates discipline, teamwork, and cultural pride through the art of step.
What began as a vision to give young people a space to express themselves has evolved into a nationwide movement—one that continues to empower students through leadership development, scholarship opportunities, and community engagement.

This year’s championship will feature 20 elite step teams representing schools from across the country, all competing in a high-energy showcase of precision, creativity, and tradition.
The 20th anniversary celebration will also include a lineup of special guests and performances, including gospel legend Kirk Franklin, Tonio Armani performing his hit “Country Girls,” and Fresh The Clowns from the UniverSoul Circus.
Thousands are expected to attend what promises to be more than just a competition—it’s a full-scale cultural experience that brings together students, families, educators, and communities from across the nation.

“Stomp Wars began as a vision to give young people a platform to express themselves through discipline, culture, and leadership,” said Dr. Turner. “Twenty years later, it has grown into a national movement that continues to inspire youth, unite communities, and celebrate the powerful tradition of STEP.”
“At Watch The Yard, we’re proud to support platforms like Stomp Wars that are investing in the next generation. This event represents everything we believe in: culture, community, and creating opportunities for young people to be seen and celebrated,” said Jonathan Rabb the Founder and CEO of Watch The Yard.
Beyond the stage, Stomp Wars continues its impact through its partnership with the RockTeen Youth Foundation, using the event as a fundraising vehicle to support mentorship, leadership training, and scholarship opportunities for young people nationwide.

The event has also become a major gathering point for the HBCU community, Divine Nine organizations, churches, and school systems—creating a multigenerational celebration rooted in culture, service, and excellence.
