Omega Psi Phi Brother and Morehouse Alumnus Dr. F. DuBois Bowman Named 13th President of Morehouse College

After an extensive national search, Morehouse College has announced that one of its own—Dr. F. DuBois Bowman, a 1992 graduate and a proud brother of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.—will serve as the institution’s 13th president.

Dr. Bowman, a 1991 initiate of the Psi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi at Morehouse College, is a nationally renowned public health leader and biostatistician. He will assume the role on July 15, 2025, following the conclusion of President David A. Thomas’s tenure in June.

Currently serving as dean of the University of Michigan School of Public Health, Dr. Bowman holds the Roderick J. Little Collegiate Professorship of Biostatistics. He is a member of the National Academy of Medicine and a fellow of both the American Statistical Association and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

“Dr. Bowman’s record of visionary leadership, his deep commitment to academic excellence, and his lifelong dedication to Morehouse make him the ideal choice to lead the College into its next era,” said Willie Woods ’85, chairman of the Morehouse College Board of Trustees, in the school’s official announcement. “He brings an extraordinary blend of intellectual rigor, strategic thinking, and values-driven leadership.”

Dr. Bowman’s academic work has focused on the statistical analysis of complex data to better understand neurological and mental health disorders, including Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, depression, and schizophrenia. His research has helped advance more personalized therapeutic approaches and explore how environmental factors impact brain function in youth.

As dean at Michigan, he has led a top-ranked school with more than 1,300 students and a research portfolio exceeding $100 million annually. His tenure has been marked by initiatives tackling health equity, infectious disease, and firearm injury prevention, while also emphasizing inclusion and cross-disciplinary collaboration.

In addition to his fraternity and academic affiliations, Dr. Bowman is also a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He has maintained close ties to Morehouse throughout his career, mentoring students and creating a pipeline program to the University of Michigan for undergraduates from Morehouse and Spelman. In 2019, he received the Bennie Trailblazer Award, the College’s highest alumni honor.

“Returning to Morehouse as its 13th president is the honor of a lifetime,” Dr. Bowman said in the announcement. “This institution shaped who I am—instilling a commitment to excellence, justice, and impact. I am excited to partner with faculty, staff, students, alumni, and supporters to build on our legacy and write the next chapter of Morehouse’s transformative story.”

His appointment comes on the heels of Morehouse’s recent recognition as both a Research College & University (RCU) and an Opportunity College & University (OCU) in the 2025 Carnegie Classifications—affirming its growing academic footprint and its enduring mission to serve underrepresented students.

Before his leadership at Michigan, Dr. Bowman held academic and administrative posts at Columbia University and Emory University. He earned a master’s degree in biostatistics from the University of Michigan and a Ph.D. in biostatistics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Dr. Bowman is married to Cynthia Bowman, a graduate of Spelman College, Georgia Tech, and Northwestern University. They have four children, including two sons who are Morehouse Men—one a 2024 graduate and one currently enrolled.
