Omega Psi Phi Brothers at Hampton University Partner with Red Cross to Donate 114 Units of Blood

Members of the Gamma Epsilon Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. at Hampton University collected 114 units of blood during their Love in Every Drop blood drive on February 18, 2026. The 24 participating brothers partnered with the American Red Cross to host the on-campus drive, supporting patients across America who need blood transfusions.

The brothers actively promoted the Love in Every Drop drive throughout campus and demonstrated their commitment by donating blood themselves. The event took place on Hampton University’s campus, providing a convenient location for students and community members to contribute to this life-saving initiative. The chapter worked directly with American Red Cross staff to ensure proper collection and processing of all donations.

The blood drive collected 114 units, which will help meet critical needs for patients requiring transfusions nationwide. Each unit of blood can potentially save up to three lives, meaning the chapter’s efforts could impact hundreds of patients in need of emergency care, surgical support, or treatment for blood disorders.

“This event is very important to us in the Black community, Sickle Cell Anemia is very prominent in our community and sadly a lot of patients don’t get the donations they need. This blood drive is a way to spread awareness and support them at the same time,” said Anthony Turner, coordinator of the event and member of the Gamma Epsilon Chapter. The Love in Every Drop blood drive represents part of the chapter’s ongoing commitment to addressing health disparities that disproportionately affect Black communities.

The initiative demonstrates how college-based service can create meaningful impact beyond campus borders while educating participants about critical health issues. The Gamma Epsilon Chapter plans to continue hosting blood drives as part of their recurring community service programming, building on the success of this initiative to maintain a steady supply of donated blood for patients in need.
