Read the full interview below.
What is the biggest thing you’ve learned as a student government president so far?
The biggest thing I have learned so far as SGA President is how leadership is hard yet rewarding. Me and my board have done a lot of work and have a lot more work to be done, but what we have accomplished so far, I am very proud of. There are days I want to throw the towel in, but my team is there to help me. Every single time we have stuck it out and put the work in has truly turned into a great experience for us and others. Sometimes we will work for hours and do so much, but the payoff is always worth it in the end.
What made you decide to attend Lincoln University of Pennsylvania for undergrad?
I decided to attend Lincoln University for a couple of reasons. One the affordability of the university. This university offers such great opportunities and experiences for a price that is one of the lowest in the nation. As well as its historic presence. When I stepped on Lincoln’s campus I could feel the many great men and women that have roamed these grounds. Lastly, the feeling of community and home. I visited Lincoln for an admitted students day, and the pride they carried with them and the hospitality they shared with me and others really told me this is a place that values community and can be a second home for me.

How has Lincoln University of Pennsylvania molded you into the person you are today?
Lincoln has molded me into the man I am today because it has given me the opportunity to spread my wings. There are so many different experiences I have had, as well as people I’ve met that have given me the chance to grow and change. Once you are dropped off and your family is gone you are on your own, and Lincoln with its diverse group of people and opportunities always gave me an outlet to express and explore different things about myself. Whether it was in the friendships I made or the organizations I joined, I learned who I was and who I wanted to be.
What specific initiatives have you headed up this year (or are planning) and how do you think they will improve the school and surrounding community?
One specific initiative for Lincoln University was for this year to have more pride coming from the student body. I wanted for every student that attends this university to have a deep and true understanding of the history this university carries. Not only that, but also the opportunities that are available to them today at Lincoln. As well as putting more emphasis on the different organizations on this campus that can really help to mold and shape what happens day to day at Lincoln. This is especially true for the Divine 9 organizations. I want for the student body to be aware and see the work each of these organizations do through their national programs.

How is your student government administration/school currently working on attending to the mental health of students?
This current administration takes mental health serious and understands the importance of mental health focus. On campus the university offers free counseling services. This is offered by the Health and Wellness offices. They also offer many different programs for students to either help with struggling mental health or to continue to maintain a strong mental health.
What does leadership mean to you?
Leadership to me means being consistent and accountable at all times for yourself and those fall under you. When your a leader others looks up to you and have expectations for you. So consistently hitting the mark is crucial as well as when you don’t being able to be accountable. Leadership also means being able to know when to take a backseat and let someone else drive.
We now live in a digital world, what do you think schools need to do to represent themselves online in 2025–2026?
I think schools need to truly take advantage of the digitization of the world today. Invest in the many different platforms that are available, as well as investing in the people who are good at running these platforms. Lincoln University has done this by investing in our own home grown Media expert. Anthony Parker the CEO of AP Creative Services LLC, is also an alumn of Lincoln University. He has poured back tremendously into his alma mater, and recently signed on to be the Branding and Marketing Partner. In this short time he has been with us in an official capacity, I have seen the major change in our presence on social media, and it is all for the better.

Why do you think Watch The Yard is important to Black students and college culture?
You guys help to keep the culture moving onward and upward. It is a honor to be featured on Watch The Yard. People get excited to get featured on there from greek life to student leadership. It is important because not enough people truly know the greatness that goes on at HBCU’s and you guys help to put the word out, one post at a time.
What do you plan on doing after graduation?
I want to either go into education to help inspire the next generation of black children, specifically black men. I also am thinking of going into therapy naturally because I am a psychology major.
We at Watch The Yard would like to commend Nathan Hargrove for his work as the student government president of Lincoln University of Pennsylvania.
