Uninvited Attacker Opens Fire at Fraternity Picnic in Atlanta, 2 Dead

A fraternity picnic at Coan Park in Atlanta ended in heartbreak Saturday evening when an uninvited individual sparked violence that left two people dead and two others injured.
The violence broke out just before 8 p.m. at Coan Park, where a group of Kappa Alpha Psi brothers were hosting a picnic that they had a permit for, according to witnesses who spoke with Channel 2’s Eryn Rogers. Witnesses say a man wearing a face mask approached the fraternity brothers, started a fight, and opened fire when they tried to calm him down. Some attendees who had concealed carry permits reportedly fired back in an attempt to defend themselves.
According to the Atlanta Police Department, the argument escalated, and at least two people pulled out guns and exchanged shots. One of the victims, 33-year-old Anthony Pearson, was shot in the head and died at the scene. 23-year-old Justin Minnitee, was shot multiple times. The DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed on Monday that Minnitee died from his injuries.
Two additional individuals were injured and took themselves to the hospital. One is reported to be in stable condition, while the other sustained a graze wound.
We at Watch The Yard extend our heartfelt condolences to the victims, their families, fraternity brothers, and friends impacted by this senseless tragedy.
Police are continuing their investigation. No arrests have been announced at this time.
