Iota Phi Theta Brothers at Rutgers University Support Pediatric Patients Through RU4Kids Initiative
Three members of the Alpha Psi Chapter of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. at Rutgers University New Brunswick participated in the RU4Kids Initiative, supporting pediatric patients and their families through the Embrace Kids Foundation. The chapter’s involvement included multiple service events designed to provide emotional support and positive experiences for children undergoing treatment for serious illnesses.
The RU4Kids Initiative partners Rutgers University student organizations with pediatric patient families to create moments of joy outside the stress of medical care. Brothers Bryce Howell, Bryce Pinnock, and Gbenga Sumonu volunteered at the Embrace Kids Annual Halloween Party hosted at The Fields Sports Complex. The members helped run trick-or-treat stations, games, and crafts, creating a festive celebration that allowed children and their families to enjoy Halloween festivities in a supportive community environment.

Brother Bryce Pinnock also participated in the RU4Kids Pizza & Ice Cream Social, an event that brought together families and student volunteers in a relaxed setting. The social featured pizza, ice cream, board games, and video games, fostering meaningful connections between volunteers and the families they serve. These gatherings provide opportunities for children to engage in typical childhood activities while building relationships with college student mentors.

The chapter’s participation in RU4Kids demonstrates their commitment to service that extends beyond traditional community outreach. By partnering with the Embrace Kids Foundation, the brothers provide crucial emotional support to families navigating challenging medical journeys. Their involvement helps create a network of care that surrounds children with positive role models and normalizing experiences during difficult times.
