Over 20,000 Delta Sigma Theta Sorors Unite in Washington D.C. for Sorority’s 57th National Convention
Starting today, Washington, D.C. transforms into a sea of crimson and cream as Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated kicks off its 57th National Convention. From July 8–13, 2025, more than 20,000 members of the international sisterhood will gather at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, joined by an additional 13,000 sorors participating virtually, making this one of the largest and most anticipated conventions in the organization’s 112-year history.
Founded in 1913 on the campus of Howard University by 22 visionary Black women, Delta Sigma Theta has built a legacy of unwavering scholarship, sisterhood, service, and social action. That legacy takes center stage this week as members from across the globe convene under the theme: “Forward with Fortitude: A Homecoming of Strength and Purpose.”
“It is my honor to welcome our dynamic sisterhood to the 57th National Convention of Delta Sigma Theta,” said International President Elsie Cooke-Holmes. “We honor our origin and our future through our theme. During the coming days, we will be inspired by our legacy and energized by the possibilities ahead, as we exchange ideas and information, hear from experts, and learn about best practices to actively engage our sisterhood, empower our communities, and elevate our impact.”
From the moment of its founding, Delta Sigma Theta has embodied action. Just weeks after its inception, members marched in the 1913 Women’s Suffrage Parade, the only Black women’s organization to do so. Today, that legacy continues through bold leadership, lifelong service, and national impact.
This week’s convention promises a dynamic slate of programming rooted in the Sorority’s historic pillars: scholarship, sisterhood, service, and social action. Attendees can expect transformative panels, networking opportunities, community-centered initiatives, and celebrations of Black excellence that reaffirm Delta’s influence across generations.
With thousands of members gathering in the nation’s capital and thousands more tuning in virtually, this convention is more than an event, it’s a declaration of purpose, unity, and forward momentum.
