Natasha Murphy, Health Policy Leader and Civic Advocate, Becomes a Member of Delta Sigma Theta
Delta Sigma Theta’s Baltimore Alumnae Chapter has welcomed an extraordinary group of women through its Fall 2025 line, The Chosen 86, and among them is Natasha Murphy, a nationally recognized health policy leader and civic advocate whose work is reshaping access, equity, and democracy in Baltimore and beyond.
Murphy currently serves as the Director of Health Policy at the Center for American Progress, where she leads state-level initiatives to expand health coverage, lower costs, and improve affordability for communities nationwide. Her career includes key roles with CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, the District of Columbia’s Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services, and a prestigious Barbara Jordan Health Policy Fellowship. Her insights on coverage reform and cost containment have been featured in The Hill, Axios, U.S. News & World Report, Modern Healthcare, Bloomberg Law, and on MSNBC—making her one of the highly sought-after emerging voices in health policy today.

Beyond her policy leadership, Murphy is deeply rooted in service to Baltimore. She is the Chief of Staff for Black Girls Vote, advising executive leadership and guiding major initiatives to strengthen civic participation among Black women. She also helped lead the organization’s policy and advocacy work, including its collaboration with the Rockefeller Foundation’s COVID-19 Equity First Vaccination Initiative. Her civic impact extends further as a founding advisory board member of Baltimore Votes, where she helps expand access to the ballot and strengthen local democracy.
Murphy’s leadership has garnered honors from USA Today, the Baltimore Sun, The Daily Record’s 2024 Leading Women, and Essence Magazine’s inaugural #Woke100 list. She is a graduate of Howard University (B.S.) and the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (M.S.), and now brings her expertise and service-driven leadership to Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Reflecting on her journey into Delta, Murphy shared:
“From registering voters and expanding democracy with Black Girls Vote to advocating for more affordable health care, service has guided my steps. I’ve learned that real, lasting change comes from working together with purpose. I’m honored to bring that spirit to Baltimore Alumnae and to contribute to the legacy of Delta Sigma Theta.”

As a member of The Chosen 86, Natasha Murphy continues her commitment to public service, equity, and community empowerment carrying forward the legacy of Delta Sigma Theta with purpose, passion, and impact.
