Farwest Region of Delta Sigma Theta Caps Centennial Year With Holiday Celebration Focused on Wellness and Service

The Farwest Region of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. closed out its historic Centennial year with a holiday-inspired community celebration in Los Angeles centered on service, wellness, and collective care.

Hosted as the culminating event marking 100 years since the formation of the Farwest Region, the free celebration was open to the community and designed to remove barriers while bringing families together for an afternoon of joy, connection, and support. Through the Region’s Adopt A Family initiative, holiday blessings were provided to 13 families and an entire housing complex, ensuring children and caregivers could experience the season without financial strain.

Families received more than gifts. The program focused on dignity and long-term support, providing tablets to enhance learning and digital access, toys, gift cards, and essential household items. The initiative was intentionally structured to reduce stress during the holidays while reinforcing stability and care.

The event also uplifted Black-owned businesses by offering complimentary food and refreshments from Nay’s Tacos, Swift Brew Company, and Dapper Dave’s Cookies. Guests enjoyed free tacos, unlimited handcrafted coffee and specialty drinks, and freshly baked cookies, reflecting the Farwest Region’s commitment to economic empowerment through intentional support of Black entrepreneurship.

In addition, attendees participated in a community raffle featuring wellness-focused prizes such as flat-screen televisions, Fitbits, and Theraguns, reinforcing the event’s emphasis on comfort, health, and quality of life.

Mental wellness was a central theme throughout the celebration. Families were invited to engage in conversations and access resources focused on emotional well-being, stress management, and healing, creating a welcoming space for reflection, fellowship, and support.

Beyond the event itself, the Farwest Region also provided monetary assistance to Swift Brew Company to aid in business recovery following disruptions caused by the Altadena wildfire, demonstrating a commitment to holistic and sustained community support.

“This celebration reflects the heart of our Centennial, honoring 100 years of service by continuing to show up for our communities with intention and love,” said Kimberly M. Usher, Farwest Regional Director. “By removing barriers and centering wellness and joy, this event ensured families could simply show up, feel supported, and celebrate together.”

“For a century, the Farwest Region has remained committed to service that meets real needs,” added Nychelle Toussaint, Farwest Regional Secretary. “This event reflected that legacy by combining holiday celebration, mental wellness education, and community support into one meaningful experience.”

As the concluding program of a yearlong Centennial celebration, the event embodied the Farwest Region’s enduring legacy of compassion, access, and impact, serving as a powerful reminder that its mission remains rooted in uplifting communities and meeting people where they are.
