Delta Sigma Theta’s Farwest Region Teams Up With Christian Keyes to Announce $30,000 Scholarship Initiative Supporting HBCU-Bound Students
The Farwest Region of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., in collaboration with actor, author, and philanthropist Christian Keyes, has announced a $30,000 scholarship initiative aimed at supporting students pursuing higher education, with a particular focus on Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
The announcement was shared during the sorority’s Founders Day observance and reflects Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.’s long-standing commitment to scholarship, service, and social action, principles that have guided the organization since its founding on January 13, 1913.
The initiative will award three distinct scholarships, each designed to support students at critical points in their educational journeys:
The Denise Brown HBCU Continuing Scholarship will be awarded to a student currently enrolled at an HBCU who demonstrates academic excellence, leadership, and a commitment to service.
The Mattie Brown HBCU Scholarship will support a high school senior who has been accepted to and will attend an HBCU, assisting with the transition into college.
The Michelle Johnson Educational Legacy Scholarship for Foster Youth is open to current or former foster youth pursuing higher education at an accredited college or university and is designed to help remove financial barriers to academic success.
“This initiative reflects the very heart of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., our commitment to educational excellence and equitable access,” said Kimberly M. Usher, Regional Director of the Farwest Region. “As we honor our Founders, we are intentional about advancing their legacy through action. These scholarships represent an investment in students who will lead, serve, and shape the future”.
Christian Keyes also emphasized the significance of the partnership, noting that supporting students, particularly those from the foster care system and those pursuing education through HBCUs, aligns with shared values of empowerment and opportunity. “Partnering with the Farwest Region on this initiative is deeply meaningful,” Keyes said. “Supporting students… aligns with the values of empowerment, opportunity, and service”.
The scholarship application is now open and available at www.dstfarwestregion.com/fwrscholarship, with a deadline of March 31, 2026, at 11:59 PM PST. Scholarship funds may be applied toward tuition, books, housing, and other educational expenses, with recipients announced following the close of the application period
