Delta Sigma Theta’s Dominique Thorne Stars as Marvel’s Ironheart, Premiering June 24 on Disney+

Dominique Thorne is bringing Black brilliance to the Marvel Universe and she’s doing it as a proud Delta. Thorne is a Spring 2018 initiate of the Mu Gamma Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Now, she’s making waves in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the star of Ironheart, premiering June 24 exclusively on Disney+.

Thorne plays Riri Williams, a brilliant young inventor whose high-tech suits rival those of Iron Man himself. First introduced to audiences in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Riri now returns to the spotlight in a series that blends intellect, innovation, and cultural depth.

Ironheart is such a great character in publishing,” said executive producer Ryan Coogler. “In the comic book, Riri Williams and Tony Stark had a relationship, she was a student at MIT who came from an almost polar opposite background, but they shared a passion to better society.” Writers like Eve Ewing have since redefined Riri’s journey, rooting her story in Chicago and expanding her cultural impact.

The upcoming series picks up after Wakanda Forever, with Riri navigating the collision of technology and mysticism in her hometown of Chicago. As she works to make her mark, she faces off with Parker Robbins aka The Hood, played by Anthony Ramos. The cast also includes Lyric Ross, Alden Ehrenreich, Regan Aliyah, Manny Montana, and Anji White. With episodes directed by Sam Bailey and Angela Barnes, and writing led by Chinaka Hodge, Ironheart stands out as one of Marvel’s most anticipated and culturally resonant series to date.

Produced in association with Ryan Coogler’s Proximity Media, Ironheart launches June 24, 2025, only on Disney+.

Thorne’s rise from the Ivy League halls of Cornell and the legacy of Delta Sigma Theta to the front lines of the Marvel Universe is no coincidence—it’s purpose in action.
