Delta Sigma Theta Soror, Senator Angela Alsobrooks, Honored as Omega Psi Phi’s Citizen of the Year

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. has honored Maryland State Senator Angela Alsobrooks, a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., with its prestigious Citizen of the Year award during the organization’s 2025 International Leadership Conference in Detroit, Michigan.

According to a press release issued by the Lambda Gamma Gamma Chapter, the award is a celebration of leadership, service, and community impact, and highlights Senator Alsobrooks’ unwavering dedication to public service, her trailblazing leadership in the Maryland Senate, and her tireless advocacy for equity, education, and economic opportunity. As the first African American woman elected to represent her district, she has championed policies that uplift underserved communities and drive meaningful change.

“Omega Psi Phi is proud to recognize Senator Alsobrooks for her exemplary dedication to justice, integrity, and the betterment of our society,” said 42nd Grand Basileus Ricky L. Lewis during the award presentation.

Senator Alsobrooks expressed deep gratitude for the honor, saying:

“I am deeply honored and humbled to accept this Citizen of the Year award after first being recognized by the distinguished Lambda Gamma Gamma Chapter, then elevated by the mighty 2nd District, and ultimately chosen for this honor at the international level across all of Omega’s esteemed districts is truly overwhelming. This award signifies Omega’s commitment to uplifting communities across the nation and a dedication to Brotherhood and service which continues to strengthen the legacy of Omega Psi Phi. Your collective work to celebrate excellence ensures this honor holds deep meaning to me.”

The 2025 International Leadership Conference, which was held in July, brought together thousands of Omega men and community leaders from across the globe to celebrate achievement, foster collaboration, and inspire future generations. Senator Alsobrooks’ recognition was a highlight of the event, reinforcing the power of civic leadership and collective progress.
