Jason Weaver Is Now an Honorary Member of Kappa Kappa Psi

Actor and singer Jason Weaver, widely celebrated for his iconic roles in The Lion KingDrumline, and ATL, has been inducted as an honorary member of Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity. The announcement came on July 18—his birthday—through a heartfelt Instagram post reflecting on the significance of the honor and his journey to it.

Weaver shared the news with his followers, writing, “I’m bringing in my birthday this year on a very high note this morning after officially crossing over as an honorary member of Kappa Kappa Psi… The honor and privilege of becoming an honorary member… has actually been 25 YEARS in the making since playing the role of ‘Ernest’ in the classic film Drumline.”

Weaver attended the fraternity’s National Convention in Lexington, Kentucky, alongside friend and fellow inductee Brooklyn Biggs. He gave special recognition to Dr. Donald Lee of South Carolina State University for making the honor possible, adding that the experience was “well worth the wait.”

Known for lending his singing voice to young Simba in The Lion King (1994) and for starring in shows like Smart Guyand Thea, Weaver has remained a beloved figure in Black pop culture for decades. His musical contributions extend beyond film, having been featured on Chingy’s 2004 hit “One Call Away.”

Kappa Kappa Psi, founded in 1919, is dedicated to serving college and university band programs and advancing music education across the nation. Weaver’s induction continues the fraternity’s tradition of honoring individuals who exemplify musical excellence and service.

In his post, Weaver also took a moment to express gratitude for another year of life and to thank God for the blessings of health, family, and peace. “I’m very blessed,” he wrote, “and I hope He knows that I don’t take it for granted in any way whatsoever.”

With his signature humility and joy, Weaver closed his message with a salute to his new fraternity brothers: “I’m KK Psi till I die!!”
