ASU, FAMU, and DSU Face Off in Digital Fundraising Battle for $25,000

What if supporting your HBCU was as simple as downloading an app and winning your school $25,000?

That’s the question driving the new “March Change for Change” Competition, launched by HBCU Change in partnership with Asbury Automotive Group. From March 1st through March 31st, Alabama State University, Florida A&M University, and Delaware State University are competing for $25,000 in unrestricted funding through a month-long digital engagement challenge.

The winning institution will be determined by the number of “New Connected Changemakers” each school secures through its dedicated HBCU Change Round-Up App. Students, alumni, and supporters can download their school’s branded app — ASU Change, FAMU Change, or DSU Change — connect a funding source, and become officially “Connected.” The school with the highest verified number of new connected users by March 31 at 11:59 p.m. EST will receive the $25,000 prize.

If two schools are tied, the winner will be determined by the total number of $5 donations triggered during the competition period. A public-facing scoreboard will track each school’s progress throughout the month.

“This is about more than an app download — it’s about building a new generation of Changemakers who are actively supporting their schools,” said Xavier Peoples, Founder of HBCU Change. “We are incredibly excited to partner with Asbury Automotive Group to create an innovative competition that strengthens giving and engagement across the HBCU community.”

The initiative represents a growing shift toward tech-enabled, everyday giving models that allow supporters to round up purchases and generate sustainable funding for scholarships, programs, and institutional priorities. Asbury Automotive Group’s partnership underscores its continued investment in equity, education, and long-term opportunity for HBCUs.

The competition runs through March 31. The only question now is which campus will mobilize its community the strongest.
