Future Innovators Summit Connects Diverse Students With Operations and Leadership Roles at Amazon
On September 5, Watch The Yard had the opportunity to attend the inaugural Amazon Future
Innovators Summit at ATL2, Amazon’s state-of-the-art robotics fulfillment center in Stone
Mountain, Georgia. This invite-only experience brought together students from historically
underrepresented backgrounds, for an immersive, behind-the-scenes look at operations,
logistics, and leadership at one of the world’s most influential companies.
The summit gave students real access to diverse leaders in management roles at Amazon, and
showcased how operations can be a launchpad for high-impact, long-term careers. From
navigating robotics to understanding leadership strategy, students saw firsthand what innovation looks like at scale and where they could fit in.

Throughout the day, students engaged with leaders like Hampton Alum and Delta Sigma Theta
Member, Sandy Gordon, Vice President of Global Employee Experience, alongside
operations leaders, Yeawoma Johnson, and Christine McAlpin, who shared career insights,
leadership lessons, and hard-won advice about how to thrive in fast-moving, high-tech
environments. Their presence reaffirmed what we already know: representation matters, and so does intentional mentorship.
As the fulfillment center buzzed with over 3,000 employees, 700,000 daily packages, and
hundreds of robots in motion at the forefront of this conversation is: how do we shape the future of work, and ensure Black students, especially Black women, are front and center in that vision?

There are currently many career opportunities open at Amazon for students and recent
grads. If you’re interested in leadership roles, logistics, or operations, now is the time to explore.
