Alpha Phi Alpha’s Justin Bibb Re-Elected as Mayor of Cleveland
Mayor Justin Bibb coasted to a decisive and expected victory Tuesday night, defeating challenger Laverne Gore by a 49-point margin in the Cleveland mayoral race.
According to Cleveland.com, Bibb’s re-election campaign dramatically outraised Gore by a ratio of 96 to 1, based on campaign finance documents.
Following the results, the Democratic Mayors Association released a statement congratulating Bibb on the win:
“The Democratic Mayors Association is thrilled to congratulate our President and newly re-elected Mayor Justin M. Bibb on an overwhelming victory. Mayor Bibb has spent four years delivering for Cleveland through steady leadership, a willingness to collaborate across the aisle and throughout communities, and results-driven leadership. Mayor Bibb’s mandate victory showed that when Democratic mayors focus on results — from public safety to affordable housing to economic growth — people respond.
We look forward to supporting Mayor Bibb in the coming term to build on the progress he has already made: strengthening public safety, creating good-paying jobs, expanding affordable housing, and making sure every Clevelander has a fair shot.”
Bibb is a Spring 2021 initiate of the Delta Alpha Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. in Cleveland. His chapter celebrated the win with a congratulatory Instagram graphic.

Born and raised in Cleveland, Bibb earned a B.A. in Urban Studies from American University in Washington, D.C., where he also interned for then-Senator Barack Obama in 2007. During his undergraduate studies, he spent a year abroad at the London School of Economics, completing The General Course program in Social Policy and Economics. He later returned to Cleveland to earn both his JD and MBA from Case Western Reserve University.
Before taking office as mayor, Bibb built a career that spanned public service, corporate strategy, and civic innovation. He held roles with Gallup, KeyBank, and Urbanova, and co-founded Hack Cleveland in 2014 in the wake of Tamir Rice’s death, advocating for criminal justice reform through civic technology.
