Alpha Phi Alpha’s Yahya Abdul-Mateen II to Make MCU Debut as Wonder Man on Disney+
Marvel fans will soon see a familiar face step into the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.’s very own Yahya Abdul-Mateen II prepares to make his MCU debut as Wonder Man in the upcoming Disney+ series Wonder Man.
Wonder Man, also known as Simon Williams, first appeared in Marvel Comics in 1964. Introduced as a supervillain empowered by ionic energy, the character later evolved into a superhero and member of the Avengers. The eight episode Disney+ series will mark Wonder Man’s first live-action appearance.
Abdul-Mateen is a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., initiated in Fall 2005 through the Alpha Epsilon Chapter at the University of California, Berkeley. A native of New Orleans, Louisiana, he is known for his roles in The Get Down, Watchmen, The Trial of the Chicago 7, Black Mirror, and Candyman. He has also portrayed major franchise characters, including Morpheus in The Matrix Resurrections and David Kane (Black Manta) in Aquaman.

With Wonder Man set to premiere on January 27, 2026, Abdul-Mateen’s debut also marks a notable moment for the Divine Nine. In less than a year, two members of Black Greek-letter organizations will have starred as lead superheroes in the MCU.

In June 2025, Dominique Thorne starred as Ironheart in the Disney+ series Ironheart. Thorne is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., initiated in Spring 2018 through the Mu Gamma Chapter at Cornell University. Together, these back-to-back releases highlight a historic moment for Divine Nine actors playing leading superheroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Make sure to tune in and watch Wonder Man which premieres on Disney+ on January 27, 2026.
