Alpha Phi Alpha Releases Statement on Recent Hazing Allegations at Southern University

Southern University officials have placed the Beta Sigma Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. on immediate suspension amid hazing allegations, ordering the chapter to cease all activities as an investigation moves forward. The decision, confirmed by Chancellor John Pierre, comes as the university’s Office of Student Affairs works to determine the facts surrounding the case.

In response, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. released an official statement today (10/22/25) addressing the situation. The statement, issued by the fraternity’s Director of Communications, outlined the national organization’s immediate action and stance on hazing.

“The Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. has placed the Beta Sigma Chapter at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on immediate Cease and Desist Directives for allegations of hazing,” the statement read.

According to Webb, the fraternity’s Rapid Response Team is currently gathering information from all involved parties. He emphasized that if hazing is confirmed by the university, law enforcement, or Alpha Phi Alpha’s internal investigation, both the chapter and individual members involved will face the strongest possible sanctions.

“If it is determined that collegiate members hazed, then the chapter, along with those individuals, will be subjected to penalties and sanctions of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Any member who directly or indirectly participated in these illicit activities will be permanently expelled,” Webb stated.

“Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. will encourage the university and law enforcement to pursue the maximum penalties allowed.”

The fraternity reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy on hazing, noting that it regularly educates members and chapters on health, safety, risk management, and legal guidelines related to hazing prevention.

“Hazing has no role in the Alpha Phi Alpha experience. It is not condoned, nor will it be tolerated,” the statement concluded.

As of now, Southern University officials and Alpha Phi Alpha’s national office continue to investigate the allegations.
