Alpha Phi Alpha and Western Governors University Renew Partnership Offering $5,000 Scholarships to Active Fraternity Members

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and Western Governors University have renewed a collaboration agreement that makes $5,000 WGU Service and Leadership Scholarships available to Alpha Phi Alpha members in good standing who enroll at the online nonprofit university, according to a press release issued by the fraternity.
According to the release issued by the fraternity, the renewed agreement is designed to encourage members and staff of the fraternity to upskill and advance their careers through continued education. Scholarships are disbursed in increments of $1,250 per term and are renewable for up to four terms. Applicants must provide a fraternity dues card or membership number to qualify, and the deadline to apply for the 2025–2026 aid year is June 30, 2026.
The press release states that WGU operates on an asynchronous, competency-based model built for working adults, allowing students to log in on their own schedule and accelerate at their own pace. The university offers more than 120 bachelor’s, master’s, and professional certificate programs across business, technology, health care, and education, with tuition for most programs running about $4,000 per six-month term.
In a statement included in the release, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. General President Lucien J. Metellus, Jr. tied the renewal to the organization’s longstanding emphasis on academic achievement. “Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. develops leaders as well as promotes academic excellence, which are key components of our mission,” Metellus said. “The continuation of our partnership with Western Governors University further highlights this commitment and encourages the professional growth and aspirations of our Brothers.”
WGU senior regional manager Ramah Malebranche said in the release that the university looks forward to engaging with Alpha Phi Alpha members across the country to spread the word about the available aid.
