Karine Jean-Pierre Inducted as Honorary Member of Alpha Kappa Alpha
Karine Jean-Pierre, the former White House Press Secretary and senior advisor to President Joe Biden, has been inducted as an Honorary Member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. The historic ceremony took place today during the Sorority’s 2025 Leadership Seminar in Anaheim, California, honoring a class of groundbreaking women whose achievements exemplify Alpha Kappa Alpha’s values of scholarship, service, and sisterhood.
Jean-Pierre made history as the first Black person and the longest-serving woman to hold the role of White House Press Secretary. A veteran political strategist, she has held senior communications roles in both the Biden and Obama administrations, as well as the Biden presidential campaign. She also served as chief public affairs officer for MoveOn.org and was a political analyst for NBC and MSNBC.
Born in Martinique and raised in New York, Jean-Pierre is a graduate of Columbia University and the author of Moving Forward: A Story of Hope, Hard Work, and the Promise of America. Her career reflects a lifelong commitment to ethical leadership, civic engagement, and representation in public service.
Alpha Kappa Alpha reserves Honorary Membership as its highest recognition, extended to those who have made transformative contributions to their fields and communities. These women are invited to participate fully in sorority initiatives and programs.
“Welcoming these phenomenal women into our Sisterhood is a powerful testament to our legacy of distinction,” said International President & CEO Danette Anthony Reed, who led the ceremony. “Their voices and vision will further strengthen our mission of impactful service to all mankind.”
Karine Jean-Pierre was inducted alongside Laura Coates, CNN’s chief legal analyst and anchor; Beverly Johnson, trailblazing supermodel, bestselling author, and entrepreneur; and Gabby Thomas, Olympic gold medalist and advocate for public health.
