Ella Fitzgerald was an iconic jazz singer. She is often referred to as “The First Lady of Song”, “Queen of Jazz” and the “Lady Ella”. One remarkable quality that made her so special was how she had a soft voice with perfect diction. Her timing and intonation were also wonderful things about her singing repertoire.
Fitzgerald loved to listen to jazz recordings by Louis Armstrong, Bing Crosby, and the Boswell Sisters. She liked their lead singer Connee Boswell’s voice so much that she tried really hard to imitate it. She won fourteen Grammy Awards, the National Medal of Arts, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
