Black Greekdom Mourns the Tragic Death of Alpha Kappa Alpha Soror Dr. Cameisha Denise Clark and Honors Her Legacy

Members of Black fraternity and sorority community as well as the HBCU community are mourning the tragic death of Dr. Cameisha Denise Clark, a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and a distinguished alumna of Clark Atlanta University. Dr. Clark, who served as a dean at Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology in Inglewood, California, was killed as a result of a campus shooting on April 29 in what authorities have described as an act of workplace violence.

Dr. Clark, who earned her Bachelor’s (2011), Master’s (2013), and Educational Doctorate (2020) from Clark Atlanta University, was known for her compassion, warmth, and unwavering loyalty to her students and colleagues. She was a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and was initiated into the sorority through its Alpha Pi Chapter at Clark Atlanta University. Her family released a public statement remembering her as “a compassionate, loving and fiercely loyal person,” adding that “her presence was a gift, and the void left behind is immeasurable.”

Dr. Clark was a strong advocate against gun violence and started a foundation in Atlanta called C Squared.

Police have charged 40-year-old Jesse Figueroa, a contracted campus security worker, with murder, attempted murder, and multiple firearm-related offenses. His arraignment is scheduled for May 7.

In honor of her legacy, Clark Atlanta University has established a scholarship in her name, committing $10,000 to the fund. Dr. Clark will also be honored during the university’s Baccalaureate service on May 17.

Her loss is being felt deeply across the Divine Nine and HBCU communities, as sorors, students, and alumni reflect on the life and leadership of a woman who exemplified excellence and service.

We at Watch The Yard ask that you keep Dr. Cameisha Denise Clark family, friends and sorority sisters in your thoughts. We also ask that you leave your condolences and memories of her so that her family can see how much she meant to all of us.
