Alpha Kappa Alpha Just Chartered A New Undergraduate Chapter at Wofford College
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® has expanded its historic legacy with the chartering of a new undergraduate chapter at Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
On Sunday, March 22, 2026, the sorority officially chartered Upsilon Chi, marking the first National Pan-Hellenic Council sorority established at the institution. The chapter was brought to life by 17 women, known as the “Magnificent 17: Daughters of the Ivy,” who now carry the responsibility of building a lasting foundation for generations to come.

This milestone is more than just a new chapter, it is the result of more than 50 years of vision, persistence, and collective effort from members and supporters who worked to bring Alpha Kappa Alpha to Wofford’s campus.

In recognition of the historic moment, March 22 has been officially proclaimed as Alpha Kappa Alpha Day by the City of Spartanburg, Spartanburg County, and the State of South Carolina, further cementing the significance of the achievement.

With the chartering of Upsilon Chi, Alpha Kappa Alpha continues to extend its impact, opening new doors for service, sisterhood, and scholarship at Wofford College.
