Meet Sabrena Ball: The Zeta Phi Beta Leader Helping Navigate NASA’s Artemis II Mission

Sabrena Ball is helping guide one of NASA’s most historic missions while representing Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated.

A proud member of Zeta Phi Beta and Chapter President of Tau Delta Zeta since 2024, Ball was initiated in 2010 and has continued to lead both within her sorority and in her professional career.

At NASA, Ball plays a key role in the Artemis II mission. As Branch Head of the Space Situational Awareness and Navigation Branch at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, she leads the team responsible for navigation, trajectory analysis, and tracking data evaluation. Her team ensures the spacecraft stays on course during its 10-day journey around the Moon and back, where precision is critical and even the smallest miscalculation can impact the mission.

That responsibility also means helping ensure the safety of the Artemis II crew, including Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. member Victor Glover, who is making history as the first Black astronaut to travel to the Moon on the mission.

Working from mission operations, Ball oversees the systems that determine the spacecraft’s position, direction, and trajectory. Her leadership helps ensure astronauts can safely navigate deep space, making her work essential to the mission’s success.

Ball earned her Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from North Carolina A&T State University and her Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Johns Hopkins University, building the foundation for her work in aerospace and engineering.

As Artemis II captures global attention, Sabrena Ball stands among the leaders helping make the mission possible. Her work highlights the impact of Black women in STEM and the continued presence of Divine Nine members at the forefront of innovation and discovery.
