Brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha in Colombia Host 6th Annual Toy Giveaway for Local Families

Members of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. living abroad are continuing to show what global service looks like in action.
Alphas in Colombia, in partnership with L4AM, recently hosted their 6th Annual Toy Giveaway, bringing toys, food support, and holiday fellowship to more than 2,500 Colombian families across the country between December 17 and December 24.

The week-long initiative reached families in Palenque, Cali, Cartagena, Tierra Bomba Island, Barranquilla, Tubará, Medellín, and Bogotá, intentionally serving urban, rural, and Afro-Colombian communities. Palenque—recognized as the first free Black town in the Americas and the island community of Tierra Bomba were among the locations prioritized for outreach.

All toys and giveaway materials were made possible through donations from National Pan-Hellenic Council members, Alpha Phi Alpha chapters, and supporters of Alphas in Colombia. What began six years ago as a single-city effort has grown into a nationwide service initiative, reflecting a sustained commitment to international brotherhood, cultural exchange, and community uplift.

Reflecting on the impact of the giveaway, Jarvis Houston, a member of Alphas in Colombia and the Beta Chapter, shared:
“With the support of NPHC members and partners such as Watch The Yard, we were able to ensure that thousands of children experienced the joy of the season. This initiative reflects the best of fraternity, service, and global community.”
Alix Jean, a member of Alphas in Colombia and the Rho Sigma Chapter, echoed those sentiments, emphasizing the collective effort behind the initiative and its growing reach across Colombia.
Through projects like the Annual Toy Giveaway, Alphas in Colombia continue to demonstrate how Black Greek-letter organizations extend their mission of service beyond U.S. borders, strengthening ties across the African diaspora while meeting real needs in local communities.
