The Phi Beta Sigma Federal Credit Union (PBSFCU) celebrated four decades of service on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, unveiling new branding and challenging the Blue and White family to grow the credit union to 5,000 members by 2028.

More than 400 people joined the Phi Beta Sigma Federal Credit Union 40th Anniversary Virtual Celebration live. Opened in August 1986, PBSFCU is a member-owned financial cooperative serving its common-bond membership within the family of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.

Brother Dr. Xavier Buck, Executive Director of the Huey P. Newton Foundation and a popular history educator on TikTok, hosted the program. Brother John Hope Bryant, CEO and Financial Literacy Advocate, delivered the keynote. The evening also featured reflections from people who helped create the credit union, who connected its founding vision to a challenge for today’s Divine Nine members: invest in the institutions and communities that build collective economic strength.

The growth challenge has two milestones. PBSFCU aims to reach 3,000 members by Phi Beta Sigma’s Conclave 2027 in National Harbor, Maryland, and 5,000 members by Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.’s 2028 Boule.

Organizers stressed that joining means more than opening an account. Members become owners of the cooperative. Attendees were encouraged to join online, download the PBSFCU mobile app, link external accounts, and set up recurring deposits. The credit union called on Sigmas and Zetas to be not only constitutionally bound, but increasingly economically connected.

PBSFCU also outlined its safeguards, including federal insurance of up to $250,000 through the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), annual examinations, external financial audits, quarterly financial reporting, and information-security systems protecting member funds.

For a fraternity whose motto is “Culture For Service and Service For Humanity,” the credit union’s next 40 years begin with members investing in one another.
