Phi Beta Sigma Convenes on Capitol Hill for Sigma Day on the Hill

Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. brought a multigenerational delegation of collegiate and alumni leaders to Capitol Hill on September 15, 2026, for its annual Sigma Day on the Hill, meeting directly with members of Congress to push federal support for the fraternity’s National Programs.
This year’s delegation organized under the theme “Achieving the Vision of Our Founders” and centered its advocacy on three pillars: Bigger and Better Business, Social Action, and Education. The day’s meetings leaned heavily on the Blue and White family, the constitutional bond between Phi Beta Sigma and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., with sitting lawmakers from that family taking part.

Phi Beta Sigma Congressman Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) and Zeta Phi Beta Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib (MI-12) met with delegates on economic development policy, access to capital for Black-owned businesses, and workforce development funding. Tlaib also hosted collegiate delegates for a Lunch & Learn focused on higher education affordability, federal Pell Grant expansion, and youth leadership development. Congressman Maxwell Frost (FL-10) met separately with delegates on voter protection, Gen-Z civic participation, and community safety initiatives.

Each session was built to connect national legislation to what the fraternity’s programs execute at the community level, giving collegiate members direct access to the lawmakers shaping the policy their chapters work under.
Sigma Day on the Hill has become a fixture of the fraternity’s advocacy calendar, pairing undergraduate voices with alumni leadership in front of federal decision-makers. This year’s turnout reinforced Phi Beta Sigma’s Social Action principle, putting the fraternity’s founders’ vision of civic engagement directly into practice on the Hill.
