Marketing Scholar Dr. Cassandra Wells Inducted as Honorary Member of Sigma Gamma Rho

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. has inducted educator and marketing scholar Dr. Cassandra Wells as an Honorary Member. The sorority announced the induction today, Friday, July 24, 2026, during its 61st Biennial Boule in Tampa, Florida.

Dr. Cassandra Wells built her academic career at Morehouse College, where she served as an associate professor of marketing and sales and later as an academic program director in the Department of Business Administration. Over her tenure at the historic institution, she taught and mentored generations of students while conducting research in marketing and consumer behavior.

Wells is recognized as the first African American woman to earn a Ph.D. in Marketing from the Georgia Institute of Technology, a barrier-breaking milestone that opened doors in a field where few who looked like her had gone before. That distinction has been cited as part of the foundation for her later leadership in the classroom.

Before entering academia, Wells built a career in the corporate world, holding strategic marketing and leadership roles at IBM. She carried that industry experience into her teaching, connecting scholarship to real-world practice for the students she guided at Morehouse.

Wells was inducted as part of Sigma Gamma Rho’s Honorary Membership Class of 2026, a group of women recognized during the 2026 Boule Honorary Membership Ceremony for achievements spanning sports, entertainment, education, public service, advocacy, entrepreneurship, and global humanitarian work.

The ceremony took place as Sigma Gamma Rho gathered in Tampa, Florida, for its 61st Biennial Boule under International President Marica T. Harris. In announcing the class, Harris said the 2026 honorees “embody the spirit of service, the power of purpose,” carrying forward the sorority’s mission of Greater Service, Greater Progress.
